What do cafecito, pastelitos, community leaders, and flamingos have in common? They all came together at the latest Community Newspapers Breakfast, an event proudly sponsored by DCFCU.

The morning brought together residents, business professionals, and elected officials for a discussion about a uniquely Florida topic: the growing effort to make the American flamingo the state's official bird.

Guests heard from renowned wildlife expert Ron Magill, along with State Senators Ana Maria Rodriguez and Alexis Calatayud and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis, who shared insights on the flamingo's significance to Florida's history, culture, and environment.

Speakers emphasized the importance of recognizing and preserving wildlife that helps define the Sunshine State while encouraging community involvement in issues that impact the region.

For DCFCU, sponsoring events like this is about more than community presence. It’s about supporting opportunities that bring people together, spark conversation, and strengthen local connections. As a community-focused credit union, DCFCU values partnerships with organizations and events that educate, inspire, and celebrate South Florida’s rich heritage.

As DCFCU continues serving South Florida, we look forward to supporting more events that foster connections, encourage civic engagement, and celebrate the people, traditions, and culture that make our community so special.
