Student Credit Card FAQ

+ What is the difference between a Student Credit Card and a Secured Credit Card?

With a Student Credit Card, you have to be at least 18 years old and provide proof that you are enrolled full-time or part-time at a college or university. A Secured Credit Card is designed for young adults to build their credit if they do not qualify for the Student Visa Credit Card. It is called a secured card because it requires a security deposit which ends up being your credit limit of at least $200.

+ How do you avoid paying interest on a credit card?

By paying the full balance at the end of each billing cycle will help you avoid paying interest.

+ How long does it take to get approved?

It may take up to 3 business days.

+ Does the Student Visa Card and Secured Visa Card help build credit?

When the card is being used responsibly it is the best way to start building credit as a young adult. You can expect to see a positive credit score within the first six months if the card is being used responsibly. The easiest way to affect your credit negatively is to miss a payment. If you feel like you cannot make a payment, please call us at 305-471-5080 so we can come up with a plan!

+ What happens to my Student Visa Credit Card after I graduate?

You will be upgraded to a regular DCFCU Credit Card and may even qualify for a credit increase.

+ Can I increase my credit limit?

After you have established good credit habits, we can review your Student Visa Credit Card to see if you qualify for an increase. When it comes to your Secured Credit Card, you can increase your available balance by adding more funds to the account.
